As a Group we wanted to reach out to people and bring awareness to the issues that women of color feminist face. We also wanted to teach people how they can make a difference. So as a group we decided to make informational flyers about our topic to hand out, we also handed out balloons. Our table was set up in Writz Hall located on the campus of Northern Illinois University on Monday, November 18, 2013 . Our purpose for the action was to bring attention to people here on campus about the issues that women of color feminists face; for example, women of color feminist's ideas are not always supported in society. On the informational flyers , we added pictures of women of color feminists and some of the pieces they wrote. We wanted people to be aware and to take a stand to make a difference. For this action, we brought attention to people by handing out different shades of purple balloons to go along with purple flyers to connect to the quote by Alice Walker, “Womanist is to Feminist as purple is to lavender.” When someone approached the table each of us took turns giving them information about women of color feminists. We explained the definitions to them (womanism and feminism) and talked about how society views the feminist movement as a movement involving majority of the Caucasian women population. We handed out balloons to those who would accept them. The balloons served as a pledge that stated, "I support women of color feminists; you should too."
